Multani Mitti or Fuller's Earth benefits for skin
Multani Mitti
Multani mitti cleanses and purifies skin by pulling out oil, dirt, and impurities. It not only controls oil but also regularises oil production benefits for all skin types. The oil-absorbing properties of multani mitti make it effective against acne and help speed up the healing process. It can also be used as a scrub, multani mitti can slough away dead skin cells and remove blackheads and whiteheads, giving skin a natural and healthy glow.
Some basic multani mitti facepacks that will give you clean and clear skin are:
- Mix a tablespoon of multani mitti with two teaspoons of rose water. Add enough water to make a smooth paste. Apply on face and neck and rinse after 30 minutes.
- Take two tablespoons of multani mitti in a bowl. Mash a ripe tomato and extract the juice. Add the tomato juice to the multani mitti along with a teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix well to form a fine paste; Add water if needed. Apply on the face and neck and rinse off using water after 30-40 minutes. Do this once or twice a week.
- Mix a tablespoon of multani mitti with a teaspoon of sandalwood powder. Add enough water to make a smooth paste. Apply on face and neck and rinse after 20 minutes. you can also add rose water and milk to this remedy and use it a couple of times a week to balance the skin’s pH level, control oil, and reduce inflammation.
For pimples and acne:
- Mix two tablespoons each of multani mitti and honey with a tablespoon of turmeric powder. Apply to cleansed skin and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with water. Do this a couple of times a week.
- Mix two tablespoons of multani mitti with a tablespoon of neem powder, and a tablespoon of rose water. Squeeze a little bit of lemon juice into the paste and mix well. Apply onto cleansed skin and rinse with lukewarm water after 15 minutes.
- Combine multani mitti and aloe vera gel in the ratio of 1:2. Apply the paste onto cleansed skin and rinse after 20-30 minutes. Do this once or twice a week.
For pigmented and tanned skin:
- Make a scrub using equal quantities of multani mitti, sugar, and coconut water rub onto skin gently in circular motions. Allow sitting for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off lukewarm water. Do this once a week for smooth even-toned skin.
- Take equal quantities of multani mitti and oatmeal powder. Add a teaspoon each of turmeric powder and sandalwood powder. Add enough milk to make a paste. Rub onto skin gently to slough off dry skin and for deep moisturisation.
- Mix a tablespoon of multani mitti with a teaspoon each of honey, lemon juice, tomato juice, and milk. Apply onto tanned skin and leave for 15-20 minutes. Wash with cold water to soothe skin and reduce dark spots.
For dry skin:
- Mix equal quantities of multani mitti and curd. Add in honey and a dash of lemon juice. Apply to skin and rinse with cold water after 20 minutes for nourished skin.
- Mash a cup of ripe papaya. Mix in a tablespoon of multani mitti; add water or multi mitti as required to make a thick paste. Mix in a teaspoon of honey. Apply onto cleansed skin and rinse with water after 15-20 minutes.
- Combine two tablespoons of multani mitti with a tablespoon each of milk and cucumber juice. Apply to skin and wash off after 15 minutes.
For dark circles:
- Mix multani mitti with glycerine and almond paste until smooth. Apply to the area around the eyes. Allow it to dry for 10-15 minutes. Spray water to moisten the face pack, and wipe away gently.
- Mix multani mitti with milk to form a smooth paste. Use as detailed above to soothe eyes and treat dark circles.
- Peel a potato and grind it. Thicken it with multani mitti to make a paste. Apply it to the area around eyes and wash off gently after 15 minutes.
Side Effects of multani mitti are:
Multani mitti has high absorbing power which can leave skin dehydrated. As such, excessive use is not recommended, especially for those with dry or very sensitive skin. If you have dry or sensitive skin, mix multani mitti with ingredients like aloe vera gel and rose water to control inflammation, and ingredients like milk and honey for intense hydration. Alternatively, use kaolin clay which is the gentlest clay with mild exfoliating properties.
Bear in mind that while multani mitti has many benefits for skin and hair, its advantages work only when applied topically. Multani mitti can be dangerous to consume as it can lead to blocked intestines or be the cause of kidney.
